New Star Trek Movie

Posted by Christine on July 8, 2009

I finally got around to seeing the new Star Trek movie this week.

Wow, what a ride! Loved every minute of it. In fact, I was sorry the movie was over by the end. I’m sure I’ll be renting the video once out so I can see it again.

Zachary Quinto is simply GREAT as the new Spock. He inhabits the role just right and is doing justice to the character. Leonard Nimoy leaves big shoes to fill. And what about this new turn of event, hmm? Yes, you know what I’m talking about, with Uhura. Nice.

Spock has always been my favorite character, and it’s good to see him again. Vulcans very much took a back seat after the original series, hardly showing up in any of the subsequent series. A shame, really, as they are an interresting and admirable race.

One thing I certainly hope, though, is that this new time line runs parallel to the original time line, and does not to cancel out 40+ years of history and characters. It would not be unheard of to have 2 alternate universes happening at the same time.

This would also open the possibility of having respective characters jump from one universe to the other in a future movie. Wouldn’t that be fun?

Plus, I do think TNG deserves to continue with movies. Afterall, those actors are no where near the end of their career, with more stories to be told. Like the cliffhanger type ending regarding Data (or his “brother”) in the last movie Nemesis, for example.

So, back to Spock. Check out my squidoo lens Spock-of-Vulcan. It’s a preliminary layout, with lots of videos and fun toys for the moment. I will research a little more of Spock’s history and continue adding to it as I go. Obviously, right now there is more to the original Spock than to the new Spock. All in good time…

Superheroes Movies

Posted by Christine on March 26, 2009

Comic books are the movies of the time. There are so many comic characters and superheroes now being made into Hollywood fares. Not that I mind actually. In fact, I rather enjoy them.

I wonder what it says about us as a society. Are we in need of heroes? Are we hoping someone will fly in and save the day? I think in some ways we are that and more. We want to believe in Good again. We want to believe there are those out there all about helping others and doing the “right thing.”

The last couple I’ve seen are The Incredible Hulk and Hancock.  Both Edward Norton and Will Smith are enjoyable any day of the week, so I most certainly enjoyed both movies.

I’ve been posting small, quick reviews on the ciao site.

Here’s my list so far:

And since I am snowed in today up here in Colorado -I believe the correct term is White Out, my first- it’s probably going to be a movie day (and hot chocolate). Ha, ha.  :-)

Movie Reviews

Posted by Christine on January 20, 2009

I write reviews of movies and books every once in a while.

I found a new site with all kinds of consumer reviews for just about everything and anything one might use through the course of our daily lives, and, they just so happen to have a movie section.

So, I am moving my reviews one at a time over.

I’ve got a couple over so far:

American Splendor with Paul Giamatti, and Flight Plan with Jodie Foster.

Check them out through this link:

Thanks for visiting.

Dance Movies and Ballroom Dancing

Posted by Christine on November 15, 2008

I’ve just posted a new squidoo lens. It’s been a while since I made one and after watching “Take The Lead” with Antonio Banderas, I felt inspired… who wouldn’t, watching Banderas in an impressive Tango scene? (BTW, you can see what I’m talking about through a youtube video on the lens)

This one is about dance movies -you know, the ones with a usually thin plot revolving around dance in one form or another. I only have a few movies featured for the moment, and do plan on adding more soon.

Ballroom dancing is all the rage now with movies and the current, very popular Dancing With The Star show. There is a certain grace, elegance, and certainly “sexual” aspect to it that makes it mesmerizing to watch.

Here’s an exerpt of the introduction:

Dancing movies inspire us. Sure, some are the epitome of campy, but they make us want to get up and move our bodies, feel the passion of dancing, run away with the dance instructor… oh, uh, ahem, ((cough)), sorry, got a little carried away there.

As I was saying… most dance movies follow a somewhat generic plot line, this being secondary to the visual candy of the dancers. After all, that’s why we watch, isn’t it? To forget our woes and loose ourselves in a magical world.

I’ve got a few titles on my renting list. When I do watch them, I’ll add them on the lens with a quick personal note.

So take a peak, and like I said, be sure to watch the videos:

If you like it, come back here and leave me a comment…  :-)

Enjoy.
