Vampire series

Posted by Christine on July 23, 2009

I’ve been reading Stephanie Meyer’s vampire series for fun of late.

I say for fun though this is not something I would have normally picked up. I’m not too much on the whole horror genre, which was my impression of this series, and generally prefer non-finction reading anyway.

To make a long story short, a friend was cleaning up her book shelves and left me the first 2 of the series, Twilight and New Moon, which just stayed on my shelves for a little while.

Then I saw the Twilight movie.

Wow, nothing like I expected. I really did like it. So now off course I am reading the books too. Twilight and New Moon were read in a matter of 2 weeks. I now have to be patient and wait for the third, Eclipse -remember I only have the first 2, and all 13 copies at the local library are already checked out! I’m on the waiting list (sigh).

Oh well, it’ll be all the more sweet when I do get it.

Movie Reviews

Posted by Christine on January 20, 2009

I write reviews of movies and books every once in a while.

I found a new site with all kinds of consumer reviews for just about everything and anything one might use through the course of our daily lives, and, they just so happen to have a movie section.

So, I am moving my reviews one at a time over.

I’ve got a couple over so far:

American Splendor with Paul Giamatti, and Flight Plan with Jodie Foster.

Check them out through this link:

Thanks for visiting.

Lens Updates

Posted by Christine on July 31, 2008

I’ve lost count as to the last time I updated my progress on squidoo lenses. I am up to 11 now.

This one is about travel books, specifically real life travels by women.

I find these very inspiring and always dream of someday doing my own travel around the world journey. So this page is dedicated to all these brave women out there who dare to live fully:

And while you’re there, be sure to check out my Lensography for any other new lenses or updates.

New Belleville Press -an independent publisher with a vision

Posted by Christine on July 19, 2008

New Belleville Press is an independent publisher newly out on the town and still in infancy. To be honet here, the founder is François Pointeau, my brother, and a passionate guy when it comes to out-of-the-ordinary literature genre.

The site: http://www.NewBellevillePress.com

New Belleville Press currently has 2 books:

Both books have received and continue to get tremendous reviews. You won’t be wasting your time or money -and I say this not because it’s my brother’s work here, but because I truly believe it. Otherwise you would not be reading this right here today.

Do you believe in supporting independent businesses? Small publishers, small books stores, Mom&Dad little neighborhood stores, etc., are all on the endangered list nowdays, what with all the mega-stores popping up at every intersection. I encourage you to drop in for a visit, if only that, and check it out for yourself. If you feel so inclined, buy something. You’ll be supporting a great cause and a starting up independently owned business.

The vision for New Belleville Press is quality, relatively small run of stories that have something different to offer. Not the kind that you find at a dime a dozen in 3 story bookstores, but the kind that all too often major publishers will not look at twice because it’s not “formula.” This is one site to look out for. Bookmark it. Better yet, sign up for the newsletter so you can keep up with the news.

Do You Know About Booksense?

Posted by Christine on May 23, 2008

Booksense is a portal for independent book stores near you.

You follow the link to their main page, enter your zip code, and voilà! A list of independent book sellers in your neighborhood.

A great way to support those smaller stores, easily drowned out by the bigger online sellers today, or the “bigger and better” mega stores found in every other shopping center.

You’ll find a convenient permanent link in the left side bar or you can try it now from right here:

Happy reading.
